In the midst of the Syrian turmoil, the joint passion for arts and theater leads Rafat, the director of this film exiled in Beirut, to encounter in a trip to North Syria a group of young hopeful friends around the ballet dancer Ahmed, army deserter Mohammed and Taj. Despite the difficult circumstances and the conservative society in their hometown Manbij, the young men use the new fragile freedom to realize their dream and create a creative space they call “Home”.
 

Top Goon – Diaries of a Little Dictator is a weekly web-based finger puppet show created in autumn 2011 and running until December 2012 on our YouTube channel. We created it as we were seeking to contribute to the popular uprising and peaceful regime change in Syria through political satire, using creative resistance to fight for the freedom of expression. It is strongly inspired by the principles of the non-violence successfully practiced by movements around the world and theorized by Gene Sharp, its most prominent theoretical representative.
